Conquer two canyons over three nights on what is undoubtedly Sri Lanka’s best canyoning adventure. Located on the fringes of a rainforest, these two canyons let you explore two untouched streams as you swim, abseil, zipline and slide through them. This adventure is an ideal way to get away from the crowds, be active in nature and gain a sense of accomplishment.

This journey is operated in partnership with Borderlands who adhere to the highest international safety standards which include internationally-qualified guides, quality gear, and comprehensive safety briefings. This journey will require a moderate level of fitness and is recommended for those who are comfortable being outdoors.

Day 1 :

Begin your adventure at the Borderlands basecamp, located on the edge of the Kelani River. Upon arrival, either in the late morning or in the early afternoon, make friends with the guides and get to know them and their backgrounds.. To warm up for  the big adventure, in the late afternoon go white-water rafting on the Kelani river on grade 2 and 3 rapids.

Tonight’s accommodation is in open-air wood cabins settled on the bank of the Kelani river which offer views of the river and the tropical jungle that overlaps a mountain range.

On the next night, it is recommended to camp in tents in the jungle to get the best experience. However, if you wish, you can return to basecamp after canyoning. It will be helpful to let the team know your preference on the evening of day 1.

Day 2 :

After breakfast, travel to the first canyon in a 4×4 vehicle. As the team sets up the tented camp, get ready for the Marvel canyon with your gear. After a safety briefing, jump into the water and walk across to the first slide, then  jump or zipline across the next section. The last section is a long abseil descent to a larger pool.

After a picnic lunch, return back to the tented camps by the river and spend the rest of the day at leisure in nature. Weather permitting, over a bonfire, enjoy dinner under the starlit sky.

Day 3 :

This morning, trek through the jungle and tea fields to the second canyon. This trek can be considered difficult as there is a steep climb in the beginning. The path is even after the steep climb as you go pass by streams, villages and various plantations.

The Sandun Ella canyon is traversed almost completely by abseiling which provides views of the mountains, forests and plantations below. After abseiling the 3 parts of the canyon, have a picnic lunch before returning to basecamp.

The rest of the day is at leisure to relive the excitement.

Day 4 :

After a leisurely morning waking up to the sounds of the birds, have breakfast by the river and depart to your next destination.
